Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents, it occurs when a driver's mind is not focused on driving, for example: between 4000 and 8000 accidents happen because of distracted drivers in the USA every day. There are many causes of distracted driving such as talking on the phone, drinking, talking to a passenger, eating or even seeing someone attractive in the street.

There are three types of distractions, which are:
  • Visual, it occurs when drivers are distracted by any object that takes their eyes off the road.

  • Manual, it occurs when drivers take their hands off the wheel.

  • Cognitive, it occurs when a driver's mind is not focused on driving, for example when they talk by phone or daydream.
Nowadays, each country has many laws to fight this problem, for example: there are laws banning handholding cell phones and especially sending text messages.

Some tips to prevent car accidents caused by distracted driving are:
  • You should avoid driving if you're tired.

  • You should avoid driving if you're sad or angry.

  • If you want to talk by phone, you should do it after parking your car.
You should avoid talking to other passengers.
